Lombok Island: A Hidden Paradise!


Lombok Island is one of the most beautiful island in Indonesia. It is located in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), Indonesia, which is somewhat similar in size and density with neighboring Bali and shares some cultural heritage. Lombok is well known with many beautiful Gilis (Islet or small island) around it. The most famous of the Gilis are Gili Terawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air.  Not only the Gilis, there are also many wonderful scenery in this Island that is worth visiting. Let me show you why and once you pay a visit, you will feel like getting back again and again (I'm not mentioning all the places yet, it's just some of them. ^^, )

1. Senggigi
It is one of the most developed and famous beach in Lombok. Located in West Lombok, with good accomodation facilities, Senggigi provides a fantastic scenery on the morning and a stunning sunset at noon, and enjoyable night life at the same time.

2. Three Gilis
The Three Gilis (Gili Air, Meno and Terawangan) located in North Lombok. The Gilis offer not only fantastic tropical scenery, but also a peaceful life because the visitors not allowed to bring motorized. The only vehicles are bicycle and Cidomo (traditional Lombok carriage pulled by a horse).

The first Gili is Gili Air, the closest to the mainland of the three. Really good choice for travelers and honeymoon couples who seek for quiet retreat. You will find an excellent snorkeling and scuba diving off its east coast and you can see turtles along the coral reef.

Second is Gili Meno, the smallest of the three Gilis. Honeymooners are oftend drawn to the crystal clear and idyllic, secluded white beaches. It  is really good place for you if you expect a quite and natural place, because you won't find the real road here, only soft sandy path. You'd better bring cash, because you may not find any ATM mechine in Gili Meno.

The third and the largest is Gili Terawangan. It is the most crowded and has the most facilities of the three Islands. The water is clear, the sand is white, the parties are hitting every night, diving and snorkeling are wonderful, the cocktail pool are inviting... All the happiness and pleasure can you find here. Here you are: The Party Island!!!

3. Gili Nanggu
Twitter of the birds embrace the sunrise, natural silence during the sunset, romantic atmosphere, no unwelcome visitor, calm wave, snorkeling in crystal clear water.... All of them are here, the Paradise Island. Located in West Lombok, about 27 km from Lembar Harbor, the enchanting view of Gili Nanggu makes you want to stay longer and take another visit.

4. Kuta Beach
You may think it is Kuta Beach in Bali, but no... it is Kuta beach in Lombok. Located in East Lombok, not far from Lombok International Airport, Kuta Beach is a a very good opening for you visit in Lombok. You may see the green and blue water at the same place, very clear and beautiful water with some hills around, and the welcoming people around you. The high waves in this virgin beach is challenging for the surfers.

5. Mawun Beach
Not far from Kuta beach, go to west by motorbike because the road is small and the condition is not really good. Drive slowly, and 20 minutes from Kuta beach, you will find this beautiful beach with its bright blue water, pristine sand and a beautiful big tree. No bars, no bungalows, this beach is plainly awesome.

6. Tanjung Aan Beach
Just about 2 Km from Kuta Beach, Tanjung Aan has almost similar view with Kuta Beach. Still virgin, the beach offers a crystal blue and green water, amazingly white and big sands, green hills around and beautiful scenery around. It is a perfect place if you want to seek a quiet place to sunbathe or refreshing.

7. Surga Beach
Located in East Lombok, this beach means Heaven Beach. It is a great place to hide from your bussy life -- white sand, clear water, heaven rocks. Special for the surfer, the wave offers you new exploration with its great wave.

8. Sekotong Beach
Located in West Lombok, Sekotong beach offers you a white sandy beach, magnificent corals and green mountains as a backdrop. the natural landscape, the simple traditional life, friendly people, the quiet place, the amazing view... all of them comes to one word "Peaceful".

9. Sendang Gile Waterfalls
It is the best known attraction of Mount Rinjani's Park attraction. There are thousands local and foreign tourists comes to this waterfall to see its stunning beauty. Located in South Lombok, near Senaru Village, the air in this area is clear and cool with natural surrounding, far from hustle and bustle and pollution. The local people believe if you swim behind the main waterfall, you will become a year younger. Wanna try???

10. Sembalun Village
On the steep slopes of Mountain Rinjani, it gets very cold at night, but soon as the sun comes out, a scenic panorama is revealed. Rice, garlic, toomato, chili, cabbage fields unfold in the valley against the back ground of the still active volcano. The beautiful valley of Semblaun is also known for its hill walks, recently restored traditional village, active cultural performers, and local weavers. 11. Kampung Sade (Sade Village)
This traditional Lombok village located in East Lombok, not far from Lombok International Airport. The houses are still traditional. The roof is made from Alang-alang. The floor and the wall is made from cows' feces (the feces is also used to clean the floor, bathing, washing, etc.) The people make traditional woven clothes in traditional way that takes 1 or 2 months to be ready. The price is around $30-$200 USD.

12. Malimbu beach
After enjoying the crowded beach like Senggigi, you can find another quiet beach like Malimbu. Sandwiched by two green hills, Malimbu beach is just about 8 km from Senggigi. When the weather is clear, you can witness the beautiful sunset clearly from top of Malimbu altogether with the wonderful panorama surrounding.

13. Bangko Bangko Beach
 Located on South West Coast of Lombok, this beach is well known as Desert Point and is regarded as one of the best waves on the planet. Not only big wave, the white peppered-like sands, beautiful rocks, quiet beach and wonderful scenery is all in one here. However, there are still very few visitors because the place is still difficult to reach.

14. Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu Waterfalls
Located about 27km from Mataram (NTB's capital city), the village of Aik Berik (Central Lombok) has two stunning waterfalls: Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu. Both are trekking up to Rinjani Starts.The first waterfall is Benang Stokel and 30 minutes from here you can find Benang Kelambu. Getting to Benang Kelambu will be tiring, because you have to trek up and down trail to get there and more adventure you can get. The trail is surrounded by rain forest and natural sounds like bird and any other forest animals. It is naturally beautiful and amazing place to get your stress away.

15. Pusuk, the Monkey Forest
Pusuk means "peak" for it is the area of mount Rinjani. This forest area is famous with many monkeys around and it is one of route to Mount Rinjani and also to Three Gilis. You can see three Gilis from here and also many natural scenery on top of it.

16. Mount Rinjani
This active volcano has became one of famous climbing destination in the world. It has perfectly challenging trek and On its peak, you will find a small crater lake called Segara Anak. There are many tour packages provided to accompany you to get there. With high risk level and challengin trail, the adventure has just began from here.
